Kirsten Dunst (Spider-man) and Paul Bettany (A Knights Tale) in Wimbledon, a romantic comedy about Tennis. An odd idea to say the least, but with dreams of tennis fans dashed year after year when our best hope falls short of the top spot at our own tournament, it was enebitable. But is it any good?
As many people know I am usually generous to films and that's why so many of the films I see get 3.5 smilies. However this one didn't need any bumping up. Although Tennis isn't my cup of tea and the storyline was more or less as I expected it to be, there was something that kept me watching but then Kirsten was taking a lead role.
However, it was not merely that, the background storylines and the down to earthness of the characters was plain to see. It was nice to see the main guy, Peter, going from obscurity to being the toast of the land. Interesting to hear his thoughts as he played the match and fun to se shots following the ball as it served.
With a small amount of swearing and relatively little nudity (for films these days at least) this one is one to see, though people will have been put off by the tennis content. There is quite a lot of tennis but then in a film about wimbledon it's less than you'd have expected. See this.
