Shrek, Fiona and Donkey are back played again by Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy. Joined this time by Jennifer Saunders and John Cleese. Cleese joins the cast as Fiona's father, the king of Far Far Away, though a few times during the film he seemed rather Basil Fawltyish, especially when he complained about his jippy leg .
Fiona and Shrek have just returned from holiday and the start of the film is a montage of their honeymoon, in the same style as their dating in the first film it is filled with short but really funny gags, including one from Lord of the Rings.
They return to be interupted first by Donkey and then by a group of messengers from her parents inviting them to a party. It is obvious what their response would be like and suffice to say a plot to kill Shrek develops. Puss in boots (Antonio Banderas) is hired to kill him, but ends up swapping sides. The cat is cool but as Donkey so eliquently puts it " the role of annoying talking animal is already taken".
In conclusion then, before I spoil the plot, it misses something of the original, perhaps it's because the first was new and original? Thats why I can only award it 4 and a half smileys.
