An ancient race of aliens has had a long fued with a race known as the ice-giants. Thor, the eldest son of the king is next in line to the throne and expected to ascend to the throne - that is, until his plan for revenge leaves both him and his brother in danger. Worse still, the threat of war with the ice giants is once again on the cards.
So, with no choice, the king banishes Thor to Earth where he meets the human race for the first time in centuries. Meanwhile, on his home world the king falls into a kind of coma, leaving his other son in control.
Will Thor learn what he needs to learn on Earth before it is too late?
Well, you can probably guess, but as comic book adaptations go this isn't too bad. I was left wondering whether if the late Heath Ledger (A Knights Tale, The Dark Knight) were still alive, whether he'd have been offered the lead role.
It was a watchable film, but not one that made me really need to see it again. Of course, the release of this film is leading up to the forthcoming Avengers film - along with recent blockbusters Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and Captain America for which Marvel have taken a massive risk.
