Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp, Rango) is back and as ever, is up to something. Somehow he has lost his beloved Black Pearl and is on a quest to get it back.
After a quick visit to London for a court appearance and a meeting with the King, he finds out that someone is masquerading as him and recruiting a crew. Perplexed, he goes to find this mystery person, only to be reunited with an old flame (played by Penelope Cruz). Only to find out she is working for Black Beard.
Soon enough, the all find themselves racing to find the fabled fountain of youth - but who will get there first, the spanish, Jack or newly appointed privateer Barbosa?
If you, like me, thought that the Pirates of the Carribbean franchise had 'jumped the shark' then you might be surprised at this film. Although it certainly still has it's over the top action scenes and mythical creatures (and you'll never think of Ariel the little mermaid in the same way again), it reigns it in a bit by making it less 'out there'.
You don't really miss the Turner's in this film, their absence isn't an issue. I certainly enjoyed it and, based on this film, I'd happily go to see where Captain Jack's adventures take him next.
