The long awaited (well, a few months anyway) third part of the Matrix trilogy is upon us and it's spectacular. When we last saw him Neo was in some kind of coma and had just destroyed a few of the machines coming to kill them, showing that perhaps his powers were not limited to the realm of the matrix after all.

I may incidentally give away too much in the following section so if you don't want me to spoil it then I suggest you either leave or skip to the last paragraph!;

Agent Smith is becoming more and more of an unstoppable menace within the matrix and when certain key programs are assimilated it seems that all may be lost. Mehnwhile Zion is waiting for an imminent attack, calling up volunteers to help in the fight. Morpheous and the gang re-enter the matrix and have a chat with the oracle. Understandably he is more than a little disheartened by the revelations of the second movie but she does know where Neo is.

Unlike the second and first Matrix movies this one spends very little time within the confinds of the Matrix. As you would expect therefore a lot of the fights and battles occur in the "real" world. This means that some of the effects the Matrix is known for are more or less missing. However, this is not a bad thing. Less surreal fights (albeit with giant mechanical monsters) makes it seem far more interesting and a few times left me on the edge of my seat.

It does take a considerable amount of time getting to the battle sequences and in that way suffers in the same way as Star Wars: Episode II. However it is all necessary and if you miss a second it can seriously affect your following of the story. I thought that at some points a little more switching between scenes may have been preferable as you end up thinking "What's Neo up to" a little bit.

So The Matrix trilogy is finally completed, though the possibility of more has not been completely ruled out, though it would have to do without some of the main characters! It is a thoroughly enjoyable film which comes very close, in my opinion, to equaling the original which is high praise indeed! So I find it my privilige to award this film the full marks!
