Legendary fictional detective Sherlock Holmes gets a makeover in this new action-packed thriller. He is a thinker, but an unconventional one at that because he also takes part in bare fist fights. So this is a long way from the gentlemanly Sherlock that I had in my mind.
However Sherlock is portrayed as clever, and perhaps a bit arrogant so he's certainly not a perfect 19th century bloke. His ex-partner, Dr. Watson is planning to get married and Sherlock is not exactly happy about that.
The plot is relatively simple. A series of unsolved murders appear to have been orchestrated by the recently deceased and apparently resurrected villain Lord Blackwood. With a lot of action, explosions and twists Sherlock Holmes is an action-packed blockbuster well deserving a good review.
Sometimes the action seems out of place for a character like Sherlock Holmes, who has always been pictured like a perfect gentleman. So it is odd to see him taking part in a bare-fist fight for fun. Perhaps the fact that I don't know the original books is a problem.
Still, if you liked Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man you'll likely enjoy this one too.
