A few years ago Dave (aka Earl Hickey) took in 3 homeless chipmunks who could talk, Alvin, Simon and Theodore. Not only could they talk, they could sing and soon they managed to save not only Dave's writing career, but propel themselves into the limelight as international superstars.

Just a couple of years later, the now ruined record producer gets a visit from three more chipmunks. This time they're three girls.

Meanwhile, following an accident which leaves Dave in hospital, Alvin, Simon and Theodore end up staying with family and attending a public school where they get entered into a competition to represent the school, that is until the Chippettes turn up. Hilarity ensues.
