The uses of prosthetic limbs has combined with the world of robotics. No longer do disabled people need to use wheelchairs, they simply plug themselves into a surrogate - a robotic alternative to themselves who can live their lives for them.
Soon, its not just the disabled who can have a surrogate. In fact, eventually, the thought of going out onto the streets yourself is unheard of. Its just too dangerous.
Of course, there are communities that have rejected the idea of surrogates and where they would be met with a violent reaction, but these are the exceptions to the rule.
Bruce Willis (Die Hard), is a cop, investigating the violent destruction of a bunch of surrogates, only to realise that for the first time ever, the operators had also been killed in the process. If this got out, this could defeat the point in having surrogates, altogether.
However, as the plot thickens and his own surrogate gets destroyed, the extent of this threat becomes more and more devastating.
This is a really good sci fi action film and one I'd happily purchase. If you like action and films like the Matrix or I, Robot then you'll love this one.
