A large spacecraft comes to rest over Johannasburg in South Africa. After months of waiting, the world break in to make contact and find a hoard of malnourished and dying aliens, later referred to derogitarily as 'Prawns'.
District 9 is set up to provide them with aid and food but it quickly becomes a slum. A place of crime and dissent. After twenty years, the locals have convinced that the only solution is the forced eviction to a new out of town district 10.
The story, filmed in the form of a flashback documentary, follows Wickers, the man in charge of relocating the aliens. During the first round of getting signatures on the orders, Wickers gets sprayed by an alien artefact which starts causing him issues which change the way he sees the 'Prawns' and his role in the evacuation.
This film starts slowly but quickly becomes intreaging as to why the people being interviewed have the opinion that they have. There is a lot of action later on which will keep the gore lovers happy, but there is also a pretty convincing storyline, which is hard to do with a storyline like this one.
Lord of the Rings and King Kong director Peter Jackson has produced another masterpiece in this one. Though the repeated use of the F-word throughout the film is rather irritating, this did not stop me seeing it for a second time in the cinema. This is one of the best films I've seen at the cinema this year.
