Liam Neeson (Episode I,Narnia) is a retired government operative. He retired so that he could spend more time with his daughter, after his job had already caused the end of his marriage.
His daughter is all excited about going to Paris to 'see the museums' (though really she and a friend are going to follow the U2 tour). Knowing what the world is really like and an overprotective Dad, he is less than happy that she should go - but reluctantly agrees.
So she goes and just after they get to their apartment and whilst on the phone to her Dad. She gets kidknapped. The rest of the film is the Dad's rescue mission in Paris, will he get to his daughter before she is sold on the black market into prostitution?
This film was a wake up call in many ways because prostitution isn't the kind of thing that you expect in this day and age. I must admit that the film made me quite angry at times - which is a sign of a good film, I think. Not a comfortable topic obviously but one that they dealt with in a really good way.
As well as being hard hitting, there were also more than a few action scenes, as Neeson takes his revenge on the people who were responsible for taking his daughter. I may not condone his methods, because in torturing and killing these people he becomes as bad as they, but I can certainly see why he would want to.
So, this is a well made action flick with a clear message - if you get the chance, go see this film.
