Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz) is a wannabe celebrity reporter. He wants to be the kind of reporter who exposes celebrities for what they are - but he can't even get past the velvet ropes in London without resorting to using his cunning, which always gets him in trouble.
That is, until the owner of one of the biggest magazines in America decides to offer him a job instead of suing him and his little magazine. So he is suddenly in the big city working for the magazine but the problem with Sidney is that he has a habit of making a bad impression on people and refuses to write "fluff" pieces that would further his career.
Nobody likes him, not even the Kirsten Dusnt (Spider-man 3, Small Soldiers) who is a wannabe novelist who somehow got stuck working at a fashion magazine. When Sidney falls for a famous singer (the girl from Transformers) he is torn between his desire not to sell out and his desire to put a broom in the spokes of celebrity culture...
I was happily surprised by this film. I didn't expect that much from it judging by the trailor but Simon Pegg has again chosen well with his films. Although clearly not written by Pegg, this movie allows him to play the stereotypically awkward Brit that Americans love to hate.
So, although this probably wont be on my DVD purchase list, it is still worth seeing.
