When humankind leaves the Earth it is in such a state that life is no longer even possible. So they create massive leisure suites on a giant spaceship and leave any army of robots to clear up the planet.
Many centuries later, just one of these robots has survived - a solitary Wall-E unit. When a robot has been alone for that length of time certain querks develop and he begins to create a collection of objects he finds interesting.
One day while he is busy compacting rubbish into tiny cubes and stacking them he meets another robot who tries to blast him into pieces. Once they get past this misunderstanding though, Wall-E and EV-AH become friends- that is until she finds what she was looking for and shuts down pending her recovery. Wall-E is about to experience an adventure that is literally out of this world.
This is a charming little film from the makers of The Incredibles, Cars and Finding Nemo, Disney Pixar. Despite the fact that there is very little dialogue in the whole film and that the main characters are completely non-human - the portray emotion in such subtle ways.
This film is a departure from the normal Disney Pixar though, with real film footage inserted at various stages - always as a flashback. I'm not sure why they did this because the difference between the very cartoonie humans and the video humans is stark.
Having said that though, this film is a nice little film - very sweet and yet also has a nice bit of action towards the end. The lack of dialogue though does make the comedy (much of which was used in the trailor and the annoying piracy ad) rather sporadic.
I won't be rushing out to buy this film, but I would buy it if it was in a sale. If you have younger kids they will either find it cute or be bored (I think).
