Will Smith is one of those actors that almost everybody loves. He seems to be able to walk into almost any genre of film and come out with a good performance.

Smith plays Hancock, a superhero with an attitude problem. He tries to do good but ends up causing so much collateral damage in the process that the should be adoring public are calling for his arrest.

That is, until one day he saves someone that might just be able to do the same for his image. Jason Bateman (TV's Arrested Development) is a PR representative who wants to change the world. So he takes the superhero under his wing and points out how easy it should be to change his image - starting with a short stint in prison, but not everything and everyone are quite as they seem.

Before I saw the film I was warned that it wasn't a comedy and even that it was boring. This wasn't the impression I left with though. In many ways this film was not as funny as early trailors made it out to be - a laugh a minute comedy. It was, however, a comedy - even if a lot of the comedy was featured in the trailer.

I'm usually pretty good at seeing a twist coming, but although I twigged part way through that there had to something more to the storyline than had been already provided, I didn't see the "twist" coming - which I count as a good thing. As for the plot though, the pace of the film and depth of the latter storyline was a tad weak perhaps. A bit more character development would have been welcome.

Bateman and Smith played their roles well, as did Charlize Theron to be fair to her. Although this one is not be likely to end up in my collection, it is worth seeing and I certainly wouldn't mind seeing it again at some stage.
