Aliens Vs Predator: Requiem © 20th Century Fox

A couple of years ago they launched a crossover film of Alien and Predator, in which they came to Earth in a big pyramid that was hidden (i believe) under some ice in the Arctic and faught one another. Some army commandos died during the onslaught.

The film was panned by both critics and fans who had highly anticipated the film, so work immediately began on a better version - a version the fans truly wanted.

In this one, a Predator ship becomes over-run with the Aliens which they had bred for the very purpose of hunting. It crash lands in the forrest in a remote part of America but it isn't long before the Aliens attack their first victims, slobber themselves all over their mouths and then burst their way out of their stomachs, unleashing the next generation of Alien soldiers.

The local town is over-run before it even knows it was under attack, leaving the remaining residents looking for a quick way out. But their best chance, the Predator intent on hunting the Alien infestation, doesn't see mankind as anything more than prey.

This is a very gory film and it doesn't pull it's punches. If it threatens to show something it generally does. I knew it was going to be gory, but it seems that each film these days has to go that much further to impress the crowd. A taboo is only something that hasn't been done yet.

In one scene, relatively early on in the film, a young boy gets attacked by one of the Aliens. Traditionally the actual death of a minor is left to the imagination - perhaps this is worse, I don't know - but I still didn't expect to see it. In another scene much later on, a pregnant woman, who is about to give birth in hospital gets much the same treatment. If they had shown what they hinted at in the ICU, I would have walked out.

The storyline was definitely better than the first attempt, to be fair to it but I just don't think that this is my kind of film. If you're going to see a monster film - see I am Legend.
