Will Ferrell (probably best known for Anchorman) and Jon Heder (who to my knowledge I've never seen in a movie before) star in this ice-skating comedy.
Ferrell and Heder are arch rivals in the men's singles ice-skating competition. When they tie and have to share the podium for the gold medal, a scuffle ensues, a mascot catches fire and disgrace looms. Both are banned from their division for life.
It is not until an obsessive fan points out that they can enter into the pairs category that they think they'll ever be able to compete again - but where will they find their partners? The answer jumps out at their coach while watching them fight on the news - each other.
I was happily surprised by this movie to be honest. Ferrell wasn't too over the top and because Talladega Nights came out between this and Anchor Man I wasn't expecting another Anchorman.
The appearance of one of the actor's from Tv's Arrested Development was a welcome surprise too, as their rival ice-skating team. A welcome new face was the lovely Jenna Fischer who plays the love interest (pictured above) and very ably!
The story is simple and it rushes through your usual Rom-com, buddy movie where two friends get to know each other, fall out over a girl but then make up - but has fun with it. In many ways it was an easy concept to come up with. The one thing that they sidestepped was the gay ice-dancer stereotype, with both main characters being straight and one of them being a 'sex addict' (you can guess which)
A good movie - go see this.
