I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm not exactly a fan of Mr Grant, but he does quite often get paired up with a beautiful lass and this time it was the gorgeous Ms. Barrymore.
Grant plays a former 80s pop star, who is making his way in life by doing small gigs at county fairs, with an aging but appreciative fan base. He needs to get back into the big time, so when the chance to write a song for the current britneyesque pop singer he can't really say no.
Problem is that lyrically speaking he is useless. Enter Drew as the ditzy woman who waters his plants. Initially he ignores her seeing her as just a crazy woman but when she accidentally up with some winning lyrics, he begs her for help.
Unlike some other rom coms that I've seen this one doesn't try to go over the top, it isn't crude, nor rediculously romantic and the misunderstanding is hardly of epic proportions. It falls into all the cliches of romantic comedies, but does so in a more realistic way. It may not be up for any Oscars, nor does it really touch on any new ground but as a feel good movie, this one hits the spot.
Despite Hugh being in this one it isn't half bad (unlike Four Weddings & a Funeral which was awful). Drew's character was ditzy but not 'silly' - it was a model of how a rom com should be.
