Will Smith, better known for his comedy performances in films like Hitch and his starring role in TV's The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, this film is a very different move for him.

His character invested his savings in what he deemed to be a very profitable venture. Unfortunately his potential customers, local doctors, see it as an expensive luxury. The consequence of which is that he is struggling to help pay the bills. His wife or girlfriend (though their relationship is never really defined) has had enough and leaves him, though reluctantly, with his son (played by his real life son).

He takes a big risk, after bumping into a stock broker with a nice car, to enrol himself on a training programme - an unpaid 6 month training programme.

As their fortunes get from bad to worse, he has to be a parent and study hard to even stand a chance of getting the job. It is a heartwrenching story and one with very few let ups, or lighter comedic moments.

There are, however, a few moments where he gets through by playing a game with his son, which make you feel that everything could be okay.

Based on a true story, apparently, this film shows just how hard some people have it and just how difficult it can be for some people to succeed. It made me think of the homeless in a new light, but I will note that despite everything never did he complain, never did he beg for money - Always he did the right thing even when it cost him dearly.

It also made me realise just how good I have things. I may say I'm skint, but I still have a roof above my head, food in my mouth and friends who care. This is not the kind of movie that I'd usually go and see in the cinema but I'd recommend seeing it at least the once - but get the tissues in first.
