Adam Sandler (star of such films as The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates) has so many remote controls that he can't even find the remote for the TV. So after a stressful day at the office where his boss (played by The Hoff) didn't give him the promotion after all, he goes out to find a remote to make his life easier.
And that it does. He soon realises that he can skip past arguments, get out of dinner with his parents and get past a cold in just a few moments. However, he soon comes to regret it when his life starts to be passing him by because the remote has learnt to skip all by itself.
The good thing about this movie is that it has a message in it - Don't keep living for tomorrow because you'll miss how great life is now. It's a Scrooge story in that respect, but despite some really funny scenes with The Hoff, Kate Beckinsale and Sean Astin (oh, and his nextdoor neighbour) the film isn't nearly as funny as it could have been.
Unlike films like Liar Liar and Bruce Almighty where the moral elements are clearly interspersed with moments of hilarity, this one goes for long stretches late on without any real comedy at all. Despite all this, though, I thoroughly enjoyed it - Comedy with depth, it's good.
