The team that brought you Anchorman are back to tell us the story of another ficticious simpleton, this time a NASCAR racing car driver named Ricky Bobby.
Ricky Bobby (played by comic genius Farrell) is obsessed with speed from they day he is born on the backseat of his father's car. Eventually he climbs to the top of his game and drags his best friend with him all the way.
He has everything, kids, money, a gorgeous wife and he is practically unbeatable. Until Gerrard (a rediculously french stereotype) transfurs in from Formula 1 and breaks his spirit (along with his arm).
Warning Spoilers: When he looses control and crashes out of the race it causes not only physical damage but serious mental damage, initially leading him to believe he is on fire, an then that he is disabled.
With the end of his racing career, comes the end of his marriage (literally within a couple of hours) and suddenly he is having to find a new career, new home and his two smart alec boys.
The film is sometimes a tad slow in developing, but the comedy is frequent, varied in style and approach. At times it came close to offending some minority groups but at the last minute steered clear. For example it was clear that the main characters consider themselves to be Christian but somehow miss the point of what prayer is about and who Jesus was. But it was clearly a joke, some light hearted banter about who they like to think he was, was actually quite amusing
It is a very funny film and I have seen it twice already. Although it isn't as good as Anchorman, it does feel as good as films like Dodgeball. All in all, one to see if you're in the mood for a giggle.
