The creators of Shrek and Madagascar bring us this new animated family comedy about a group of hibernating animals. When they wake up from their winter nap they are alarmed to find a giant "steve" stretching forever in both directions where their berry patch used to be.

RJ (Bruce Willis), a seemingly helpful little raccoon introduces them to "the chip" and informs them that this "steve" is in fact a "hedge". on the other side of the hedge is a brand new housing estate. After overcoming their fears they become convinced that the grass is in fact greener on the other side.

But RJ is collecting food for a bear he managed to tick off and will do anything to save his bacon. How far will he go to save himself and will that include putting a poor group of squirrels, hedgehogs, tortoises, skunks and weasels in danger.

Hammy (Steve Carrell), the hyperactive squirrel is clearly the best character in the movie. Though Willis does an excellent job convincing us he is a raccoon, which is a definite role change for him. William Shatner and Avril Lavigne also pull off their roles well, as does Gary Shandling as the Tortoise.

Although the movie started a little slow, once it got going it was a laugh a minute (or more) comedy that I'd seriously consier buying. Although I enjoyed Madagascar and Shrek 2, this is they're best offering since Shrek!
