When I was growing up the Autobots and Decepticons were the coolest toys on the market. The TV and Toy executives knew what to do to capture the imagination of the average boy and Transformers were that money making solution. A highly popular tv series and, indeed, film followed the adventures of the characters.

When the concept of a live action Transformers movie was mentioned - I scoffed. Despite the car advert which I'm sure breaches copyright rules and regulations, the concept of robots that came from space and disguised themselves as cars seemed absurd. But I am happy to say I was wrong.

When a US Army base in Qatar is attacked by an unknown technology that breaches their highest security in a matter of seconds and wipes out the base - the Government are understandably peturbed. They call in their techie specialists (including a very attractive Australian lady) to find out who was responsible.

Meanwhile, Sam Witwicky is trying to sell his grandfather's junk on EBay, in order to buy a car and impress Mikaela, a very attractive girl from his year who's never even noticed him before. When his new car steals itself one night, he starts to realise that this car may have been more than he'd bargained for.

The film is jam packed full of action sequences and somehow Speilberg and Bay have managed to come up with a way of doing this with both class and credibility. The actor who plays Sam, is hysterical as the lead character, with so many one-liners you actually start to miss them during the fighting.

The plot was entertaining and sensical, with the only issue being the somewhat cheesiness of the voiceovers by Optimus Prime at the end. Maybe it was just me and maybe it was something that would resonate in die hard Transformer fans.

I loved this film enough to see it twice. So I expect to go out and buy this film at some point when I have money.
