The man of steel is back from an extended vacation to visit his home, or what's left of it. 5 years have past (though obviously given the technological advances, a good decade or two have passed) since the last Superman movie starring the late Christopher Reeves. Everyone, including his adopted mother and Lois Lane, had all but given up hope that he'd eve return and Lois has other surprises for him too.

Clark, who has been unmissed by everyone except possibly Jimmy, has coincidentally also returned from a 5 year safari. But he is saddened to learn that his beloved Lois now has a son and a fiance.

Meanwhile, Lex Luthor who was released due to a loophole in the law is plotting to capture some of Super-man's technology for his own ends, no matter what the consequences.

What I liked most about this movie were the special effects, its nice to see Superman being done justice with modern technology which we often take for granted. The choices of cast were well done, especially the new Superman (Brandon Routh) and Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth). Lex (Kevin Spacey) was also well cast.

It was a well made and easily followable film, but for me it did a bit of a "Return of the King" ending and went on far longer than it really needed to. At 2.5 hours it is quite a long movie, and perhaps I was looking for more of a cliffhanger ending than the "happily ever after" we are given.

Having said that though, it is a very good film. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, its a piano...
