Ant and Dec shot to fame in the 1990s following the success of their Byker Grove characters "PJ and Duncan". That was the start of a short lived pop career in which they had such hits as "Let's get ready to Rhumble" and "Better watch out".
Thankfully it was short lived and they soon moved onto being Saturday morning TV presenters on the incredibly popular SMTV live. After a few years they moved to prime time where they have remained. Now, they are making their movie debuts (well in the lead roles anyway) in this alien conspiracy film.
Ant and Dec play a couple of guys struggling to get anywhere very fast in London. When Dec falls upon a video tape of an actual alien autopsy he thinks he's finally gonna make it big. Until he gets it home and its been completely destroyed.
So they decide to remake it using their friends and family's talents they manage to make the film, but soon its a massive success. How can they keep this big a secret from ruining everything.
This is a typical Brit movie. There is a certain style that you come to expect from British movies, perhaps its because they don't conform to the American cliches? Perhaps its the style of filming? Who knows? Whatever it is this screams it. It is a pity that British films do tend to disappoint more often than not. One notable exception was "Shaun of the Dead" and thankfully this one too.
I was expecting a "Chums" style film with rediculous gags and a cameo from Cat Deeley but was disappointed because this was far more serious than that. Don't mistake my disappointment for a disapproval though, this film was good in a more grown up way. Gags were still simple enough to make me chuckle and the storyline easy enough to follow, though perhaps not twisty enough.
So over all, an amusing but not hysterical film, with a good enough plot but not one that warrants repeat screenings. Fans of Ant and Dec won't be disappointed.
