Steve Martin seemed an odd choice to play the Inspector in this remake. The original Pink Panther movies became personal favourites of mine as a child. The slapstick humour and corny misunderstandings probably have a lot to do with my sense of hunour as an adult.
Just a few minutes into the movie I had already forgotten that this guy, Steve Martin, was playing Inspector Cluseau instead of the late original actor.
The Pink Panther Diamond has been stolen and it's owner killed during the middle of a football celebration. The chief of police calls in Cluseau and promotes him to Inspector. Not because of his skills, bravery or intelligence but because he is incompitent. He wants to solve this himself and win a prestigious bravery medal.
This film has its moments, some of which left me in hysterics, others of which left me cringing. Is it as good as the originals, probably not, but it certainly is worth your time if you like "silly" films. Give it a try, Beyonce's in it.
