This is a strange looking musical animation about your classic love triangle with a Tim Burton twist. Victor is due to wed Victoria, a woman whom he has never met before in an arrangeed marriage. Both sets of parents expect the wedding to end their money worries but both is set to be disappointed.
At the rehearsal Victor messes up his lines and goes for a long walk to practice them, but unwittingly declares his wedding vows to a dead woman who was long ago abandoned under a tree. She willingly accepts his offer and is taken to the underworld. Havoc ensues
The lighting in this film is odd. Above ground in the living world the lighting is almost always blue or grey, in the underworld we are treated to full colour. This is rather reminiscent of how life for these characters is, everything is awkward until they die.
The story itself is your standard fairytale one with a rather tragic twist. You know that someone is going to end up disappointed since neither woman is deserving of losing their husband but one must.
I would be uneasy letting younger kids see this movie because it is creepy at times, though fun at others. The songs were unexpected but helped to keep it light hearted. Not a bad movie.
