I must be honest, when I went into the cinema I was expecting to see a bad film. I was expecting to see a film that was full of cheesy one-liners and an implausible storyline. Thankfully, I was wrong.

Although some of the required storyline requires some unrealistic or at least inplausible natural phenomenons (not totally unlike Spider-man or even X-Men) it does somehow come accross as at least believeable in a world (i assume) set not too far into the future.

Five people go into space to study a natural phenomenon to which they ascribe the initiation of evolution upon the earth. Somehow their timing is all out by a few hours and its headed right for them. They get caught in the storm and awake in hospital back on earth.

Soon they realise that their DNA has become fundamentally altered providing them with some truly fantastic new powers. Of course one of them is cursed with an unusual new look since his body is now rock solid, literally.

This film has plenty of storyline, which may annoy some action junkies, but I felt it necessary to introduce the key characters. In comparison their common enemy, Dr Doom (played by the same guy who plays Cole in Charmed), felt a tad tacked on. Though they built him up slowly, he didn't seem to have any real motivation and he was defeated far too easily.

However as I told my housemate, the film wasn't about him. It was about the other four, he was merely a sideline in many ways. All in all a well made movie with some funny quips and enough action to keep adrenalin junkies at least satisfied. What do the critics know, eh?
