Spider-man, X-men and Daredevil raised the bar for films based upon comic books. If Batman hadn't been redone then it would have lost popularity, looking like the poor relation in the comic book world and that would never do.
Unlike previous Batman films, this one is done in a more serious style. Gone are the puns that made the others so silly and hard to take. This one gives Batman some depth, it makes him believable and far less cheesy.
It starts, as you would expect, at the beginning with a young Bruce Wayne falling into a cave full of bats. The poor child is terrified and this fear stays with him throughout much of his life. However that isn't the only thing that haunts him. The murder of his parents following an opera, for which he blames himself sends him down a terrible path.
Eventually (after a lot of other stuff happens) he decides that he wants to save people and do good but the only way he can do this is by assuming a persona. So Batman is born...
This film is full of storyline and for a younger audience it may be difficult to follow. It is packed with action, but of a non gory nature for the most part, though some scenes will too be scary for a younger audience. All the actors play their parts well although Batman's deep voice gets quite annoying after a while (in my own humble opinion, at least). One to watch though definitely.
