Based on the Douglas Adam's 5 part trilogy of the same name, the film was just as one might have expected it to be, wierd.
But not bad wierd. As the film ran I remembered the BBC TV series version and hoped that the film would use certain gags and that it did. Including the bowl of petunias and the sperm whale!
The premise is simple. When Arthur Dent, a typical English guy who is fond of his tea, wakes up he finds that his house is due for demolition. It feels like the end of the world, then suddenly, it is. A race of alien's arrive to demolish the earth to build a hyperspace bypass.
With the help of a friend, Ford Prefect who turns out to be an alien, he hitch hikes a lift on one of the freighers just in time. Following a series of impropable events he ends up on another space ship where the girl he met at a party some weeks before hand also happens to be.
If you liked the book or the tv series, give this film a chance, you might like it. If you don't already know what a "Babel fish" is before you see the film, I suggest reading the book or watching the series first. Worth a watch
